South Church Recital Resonates With Public

by Erica Schmitt
NEW BRITAIN HERALD

This was the first of the New Year and featured renowned baritone soloist Chai-lun Yueh, who teaches vocal studies at Wesleyan University, Trinity College and The Hartford Conservatory. He was joined by pianist Annette Shapiro, who has taught at the Univeristy of Connecticut as well as The Hartford Conservatory.

Yueh, a West Hartford resident, delighted the crowd with 12 arias in Italian — just one of the seven languages he sings in.

“I love the beauty of the sound and the beauty of the language,” he said. “A lot of these songs are now popular requirements for high school vocal students,” he added.

The recital began with “Per la Gloria d’adorarvi” or “For the glory of adoring you” and wrapped up with “Se Florindo e fedele” (If Florindo will behave in loyalty).

Yueh will return to South Church on Sunday, March 9, when he will sing another 12 arias.
